Principal Investigator

Professor Meng-Xing Tang

Tang

Professor Mengxing Tang joined the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in 2006, and was promoted to a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2011, a Reader in 2015, and a Professor in Biomedical Imaging in 2018. Before moving to London, he was a Departmental Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford.

He founded the Ultrasound Laboratory for Imaging and Sensing (ULIS, previously known as the Ultrasound Imaging Group) at Imperial College in 2006.

His research has been funded by EPSRC, the Wellcome Trust, CRUK, the Royal Society,  and Badrit Foundation. He is an Associate Editor of  the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

Dr Oscar Bates

EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow working on 3D ultrasound tomography of the human brain.
Previous:
  • MRes/PhD researcher working towards ultrasound tomography of the human brain, he has a particular interest in leveraging computational techniques to improve medical imaging.
  • Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist with IBEX Innovations. Oscar focused on developing statistical models to extract information from a novel x-ray imaging technology. This technology has applications in the Medical, Portable Security and Food Inspection markets.
  • MPhys Physics at University of York. A course with strong theoretical and practical components, his project investigated the properties of magnetic thin films.

PhD Students

Megan Morris

PhD researcher working on the application of magnetic resonance imaging and super-resolution ultrasound to monitor tumour blood delivery during breast cancer radiotherapy.
Previous:
  • Research placement with the Imaging for Radiotherapy Adaptation team at the Institute of Cancer Research (2019). Developed a software for 2D tracking of kidney motion for the purpose of protecting the kidneys during upper abdominal cancer radiotherapy.
  • MSc in Natural Sciences at Lancaster University with a study abroad year at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2016-2020). Associated with the Nonlinear and Biomedical Physics Research Group at Lancaster University for a fourth-year research project investigating the mammalian timing system.
